REAA North Bay presents Assessment Appeals: Role of the Appraiser/Valuer

October 19 @ 9:30 am - 11:30 am

Instructor: Rhiannon Yeager, Chief Deputy Assessor, Sonoma County Assessor’s Office

Every property in California is re-assessed yearly in order to “equalize” the tax roll in each County. However the equalizing of the tax roll is a different process than in many other States because of our unusual tax laws which began in 1977 with the passage of the Jarvis Gann Tax Initiative (Prop. 13).

This presentation relates to the role of the Appraiser/Valuer and the opportunities it presents to appraisers in communities to provide appraisals for Assessment Appeal when the taxpayer and the Assessor do not agree on a property’s assessed valuation. The class will delve into the Rules of Evidence that apply as well as the Presumptions that are used in the Assessment process, including the Burden of Proof and how it is applied in this unique assignment segment.

Note:  If you attended Sacramento’s Assessment Appeals Class last August 8, 2023, this class cannot be used for CE hours for the same renewal cycle as this class has the same BREA approval number.

This offering is not sponsored or endorsed by the Appraisal Institute or the Northern California Chapter.  Questions should be directed to REAA North Bay.
