Each year, the Northern California Chapter proudly presents the Claudia B. Carleton Legacy in Leadership Award to a female chapter member for outstanding leadership, accomplishment and / or support of the Northern California Chapter and the Appraisal Institute.
It is given in recognition of Claudia B. Carleton, MAI, who throughout her career was an inspirational and committed Appraisal Institute volunteer on the chapter, regional and national levels.

Michelle van de Pol, MAI, SRA
Michelle van de Pol, MAI, SRA, MRICS has been appraising for roughly 25 years and often is in director roles. Angela Hernandez, MAI, AI-GRS states “Michelle is one of the best appraisers I’ve ever met. She’s evolved from a fee appraiser and made her own lane in the litigation world. In the face of adversity, she creates a plan, and executes it to perfection, all with a smile on her face.”
Michelle has also taken on training many appraisers and has personally encouraged them to earn their MAI designations.
She Chaired our 2024 Annual Fall Conference and led the large committee to excellence. In addition, she is the 2024 North Bay Branch Chapter Chair and has been volunteering on multiple committees for decades (both for the Northern California Chapter and Sacramento Chapters).
